Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Journal of the Physical Society of Indonesia (JPSI) acknowledges the increasing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in academic and scientific writing. This policy provides guidelines for authors regarding the ethical and responsible use of AI tools in the preparation and submission of manuscripts.

1. Introduction
JPSI supports the responsible use of AI-based tools to enhance the quality and efficiency of manuscript preparation. This policy aims to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the scientific publishing process while accommodating advancements in AI technology.

2. Allowed Use of AI Tools
Authors are permitted to use AI tools to assist in certain aspects of manuscript preparation, including:

Language Editing and Proofreading: AI tools may be used to improve grammar, spelling, and overall language fluency.
Reference Management: AI-based tools can assist in formatting citations, organizing references, and generating bibliographies.
Plagiarism Checking: Authors may use AI tools to ensure originality and avoid inadvertent plagiarism.
Data Analysis: AI algorithms may be utilized for analyzing datasets, provided the methodology and results are clearly described and verified.

3. Prohibited Use of AI Tools
JPSI prohibits the following uses of AI tools in manuscript preparation:

Content Generation: AI tools should not be used to create the primary scientific content of the manuscript, including the introduction, methodology, results, and conclusions. Manuscripts must reflect the authors' original intellectual contributions.
Data Fabrication or Manipulation: The use of AI to generate false data, manipulate results, or engage in unethical practices is strictly forbidden.
Ethical Violations: Any use of AI that compromises academic integrity or breaches publication ethics is not allowed.

4. Recommendations for Responsible AI Usage
Authors who use AI tools in manuscript preparation are encouraged to:

Review and Verify AI Output: Authors must thoroughly check any content generated or suggested by AI tools for accuracy and reliability. Responsibility for the final manuscript lies entirely with the authors.
Disclose AI Usage: Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in the manuscript, such as for language editing, plagiarism checking, or data analysis. This information should be included in the acknowledgments section.
Acknowledge Tools Used: Proper acknowledgment should be given to the AI tools or software used during the manuscript preparation process.

5. Ethical Considerations
Authors must adhere to JPSI's ethical guidelines and international standards of academic integrity. The use of AI tools must not lead to plagiarism, copyright violations, or other unethical practices. Any breach of these ethical standards will be treated as a violation of publication ethics.

6. Editorial Review
All submissions to JPSI, whether AI-assisted or not, will undergo the same rigorous peer-review process to evaluate their scientific merit, originality, and adherence to ethical standards.

7. Policy Updates
This policy will be periodically reviewed and updated to reflect advancements in AI technology and align with the best practices in academic publishing.
